Description
Big Tex, a 52 foot tall cowboy, has been the symbol for the State Fair of Texas since his introduction in 1952. Big Tex's jaw is hinged, so that he appears to "speak" the announcements that promote fair events. Each announcement is preceded by a friendly, "Howdy Folks".
The Texas flag is known as the "Lone Star Flag" thus the state's nickname "The Lone Star State". This flag was introduced to the Congress of the Republic of Texas on December 28, 1838 and was adopted on January 25, 1839 as the national flag of the Republic of Texas.
