Description
The State Fair of Texas opened its gates for the first time in October, 1886 and was originally charted as a private corporation by local businessmen. An estimated 3 million people attend the fair each year, bringing nearly $350 million to the Dallas economy.
This image features the Texas Star ferris wheel. Built in Italy, the Texas Star ferris wheel debuted in Dallas' Fair Park in 1985. More than 15 employees staff the ride during the State Fair of Texas, which carries riders some 20 stories high. On a clear day, those on the Texas Star can see the downtown Fort Worth skyline some 40 miles away.
